Advice and Guidelines
Advice and guidance for parents
Introduction
One of the biggest educational mistakes parents make out of love is "doing everything for the child." This behavior creates a dependent personality unable to face life's challenges alone. Proper parenting aims to prepare the child to gradually do without us by teaching them daily life skills.
Daily Skills the Child Should Learn by Age
- Preschool Age (3-5 Years): At this stage, the child can learn to dress themselves, brush their teeth, and put their toys back in the box after playing.
- Early Childhood (6-8 Years): Encourage them to make their bed every morning, pack their school bag based on the schedule, and help prepare light snacks.
- Middle Childhood (9-11 Years): They should be able to wash their plate after eating, fold their clothes, clean their room, and manage a simple allowance.
- Adolescence (12+ Years): More complex skills like using the washing machine, ironing clothes, cooking a simple meal independently, and making responsible purchases from the store.
Tips for Teaching Skills Effectively
- Gradual Process and Patience: Do not expect perfection the first time. Expect some mess (like spilling water) and consider it part of the learning process.
- Positive Reinforcement: Praise encourages the child to repeat the behavior. Tell them: "You made your bed wonderfully today; I am proud of your responsibility."
Conclusion
Independence gives the child a sense of competence and self-confidence. When we teach our children how to serve themselves, we do not just lighten our burden; we raise adults capable of taking responsibility and managing their lives successfully.
