Advice and Guidelines
Advice and guidance for students
Introduction
Many students start their school year with great enthusiasm and a strong determination to get the highest grades, but this enthusiasm often fades after a few weeks, replaced by boredom and procrastination. Why does this happen? Because enthusiasm is a temporary feeling; achieving success requires setting "clear goals" and executing them with discipline. How do you map out your goals to ensure you reach them?
The SMART Method for Goal Setting
To ensure you don't abandon your goal, it must adhere to the SMART criteria:
- S - Specific: Don't say, "I want to improve in school"; that's vague. Say: "I want to get a 16 in math this semester."
- M - Measurable: You must be able to track your progress. E.g., "I will solve 3 math exercises every day." You can easily measure whether you did it or not.
- A - Achievable: Be realistic. If your previous grade was an 8, jumping straight to 18 is very difficult. Make your logical goal to reach 13, then progress. Impossible goals bring quick frustration.
- R - Relevant: Your goal should matter to you and your future, not just to please others. Internal motivation is much stronger than external pressure.
- T - Time-bound: "I will review my lessons" is a sentence that invites procrastination. Replace it with: "I will review the science lesson on Thursday from 6 to 8 PM."
Strategies to Maintain Motivation
- Break Down Big Goals: Thinking about passing the entire Baccalaureate can be terrifying and overwhelming. Break this giant goal into small weekly and daily goals (e.g., finishing the first history unit this week). Small victories give you a dopamine rush that pushes you to continue.
- Visualization: Close your eyes and imagine the moment you see your name on the pass list; imagine your parents' joy. This positive visualization programs your subconscious to work hard to turn the image into reality.
- Create a Stimulating Environment: Remove distractions from your study area. Hang motivational quotes above your desk, and befriend peers who share the same positive ambition—energy is contagious.
Conclusion
Success is neither luck nor magic; it is the result of a systematic process that starts with setting a clear goal and continues with a disciplined daily action plan. Remember that "continuous drops of water can pierce a rock"; consistency in small steps is the secret to great achievements.
